Fondo Antico
Region:Located in the Trapani region of western Sicily, Fondo Antico is a family-owned estate with winemaking roots that span several generations. The land has been in the possession of the Polizzotti-Scuderi family since the early 19th century. In 1995, at the initiative of Giuseppe Polizzotti, the family decided to take full control of production and begin marketing their own wines. Today, the estate encompasses approximately 80 hectares of vineyards, upholding family expertise while embracing research and innovation.
Benefiting from a marine-derived terroir—characterized by soils rich in limestone and minerals—and influenced by its proximity to the Mediterranean, the estate primarily cultivates grape varieties emblematic of western Sicily, including Grillo, Inzolia, Zibibbo, Nero d’Avola, and Perricone.
The Fondo Antico style is defined by expressive, generous wines that reflect their Mediterranean identity. The whites offer freshness, vibrancy, and mineral nuances, while the reds combine rich fruit, structure, and elegance. The estate also produces sparkling wines, as well as selections sourced from the Etna region.
Balancing family tradition with a forward-looking approach, Fondo Antico authentically expresses the richness and diversity of Sicily’s winemaking heritage.
